Olympic Centennial Park

After our meetings Michelle and I had a couple days pretty free while Lynne went to other meetings. We went to the Centennial Olympic Park (the 1996 Olympics were in Atlanta, remember?) and explored the city a bit. I am by the fountains shaped like Olympic rings. They do a music and fountain show every afternoon, and then the fountains just run in random patterns the rest of the time and kids play in them.
The Coke museum is right by the park. We decided it was to expensive to go, but i did share a small Coke with the guy that invented it...
Since we are here for a volleyball tournament, I thought I should take a picture of the volleyball sidewalk sqare along the Olympic walk.
Thursday night was the Boyce banquet, which is a fancy affair where the USA Volleyball people give out all the big awards. We had a silent auction, and I won a nice USAV gym bag, and a pair of blue velcro coaching shoes. They are a little dorky looking, but I swear I saw Hugh McCutcheon (the US men's Olympic coach) wearing the exact same pair, only bigger!
Along with all the individuals who won award, we also honored the 20th anniversary of winning a men's Olympic gold medal. A couple of the players from the 1988 Gold Medal team were there, and we watched a little video about it. I won a volleyball, and Scott Fortune, who played on the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic teams, signed it for me!

I haven't taken any pictures of us playing or in our uniforms. The tournament has been fun, even though we haven't won a single game...well, we won a game because one team we played were short a player at game time, and they had to forfeit the first game, but we haven't won a match. At least we are enjoying ourselves and getting lots of exercise! I will take some team pictures and some action shots tomorrow and post those eventually.
