The whole family (along with Sara and Scott) got together for Easter dinner. Here I am entertaining Olivia. We had a delicious meal, played some games, and had good fellowship. The highlight of the day was when the dog, who was tied up outside, decided to run off the back porch and was swinging from his leash. We thought maybe he was upset that he didn't get to eat with us and was going for doggie suicide...he was fine, and came right inside and started begging again.Monday, March 24, 2008

I met with the realtor last Friday, and she thought the inside of the house looked great! I finished up all the paperwork over the weekend, and it will go on the market this week. On Saturday my family came over and we had a work day to finish up the inside and clean up the outside.
Dad replaced a window pane that was cracked in a few places. He said he has had a lot of practice at this, since he broke a lot of garage windows as a kid playing baseball...
I put Jim to work sweeping out the garage and raking leaves. It is too cold still to mow the lawn or to put down some grass seeds, so we just swepts and cleaned up.
I trimmed all the evergreen bushes in the front of the house.

A Moment of Silence for Katie
When I was a little girl (about 7), my Mom made a doll for me. Her name was Katie. She was my height, and had blonde curly hair just like me, button eyes, rosy cheeks, and even had a red heart on her chest. I loved Katie. In fact, I slept with Katie until last year. I always thought I would give her up when I got married.
Through the years, Katie got pretty threadbare. I sewed her face back together a number of times, and affectionately called her "Franken-Katie." Her button eyes fell off a long time ago, and I still have then in my jewelry case. Last year I moved her to the bottom of the bed, but couldn't quite bear to let her go all the way.
When I was in college my Grandma Huizenga made this bear for me and sent it in the mail. I called it the "Prayer Bear," and my small group will hold the bear as we were praying. Like Katie, the bear has also seen better days, and is missing both ears.

In the adrenaline rush of cleaning and down-sizing, I found the strength to take both Katie and the Prayer Bear, bring them outside, and put them in the trash can. It was a tough moment, one that I will look back at with tears and longing for many years to come. I even shed a few tears. Good-bye, Katie! Good-bye, Bear! I will miss you both!
House for Sale
My realtor is coming over on Friday to go through my house and tell me what I need to fix up still. I have been spending my late nights after play practice and every weekend minute I am home to clean and organize. I am also sending a lot of stuff to Goodwill in an attempt to redule what I have. Simplify!
I cleared out all my personal stuff from the living room. Here is a shot of the fire place and stairway now.
I had Sara's old room repainted within 24 hours of her moving out...not that I didn't like it, but I had time then, and I wanted it to be a more "sellable" color than robin's egg blue. :) Now it is my "reading room. Mom and Dad came over one night while I was gone and donated the lovely drapes. They match so well! I also was able to display my collection of Nancy Drew books (No. 1-64) for the first time!
