When God Speaks...

This weekend Scott and I spent a lot of time talking about some stuff I've been struggling with, and also about job options for him. He had applied for another job in his department, and has a second interview for the position tomorrow. The job would require him to work out of the office in Des Moines, and would probably lead to us moving closer to Des Moines, as he would no longer have a state vehicle, and we'd both be commuting. So we're both struggling with knowing what to do, and where God is leading us.

Today at church we had a guest speaker, and although I felt tired and worn, we went to the evening service tonight--and boy am I glad we did! The preacher read from Habakkuk, and if you haven't read it lately, get out your Bible and read it, it's only 3 short chapters.

The book starts out with Habakkuk looking at all the pain and bad stuff in the world around him, and he says to God "How long will this go on? Why?" God's response: "Look, watch, and wait, and you will be utterly amazed." Habakkuk again asks why God allow's injustice, but this instead of saying How Long and Why, he says: "I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts. I will look to see what he (God) will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this compaint." Habakkuk stops questioning...instead he decides to watch, wait, and listen. And God gives him a revelation, and tells him to write it down, and God will deliver him in the appointed time. In the end, Habakkuk says that even if he loses everything he has, he will rejoice in the Lord, and he will be joyful in God his Savior.

This is the answer to what I've been struggling with. I've been praying for God to tell me what to do, and the answer was to stop, watch, and listen, and he will reveal it to me.

At the end of the evening, the preacher invited anyone that wanted prayer to come up to the front, and Scott and I went up there. The preacher came to Scott, and told him that God is planning new things for him, to expect movement and change and promotion. This preacher had never met Scott before.

I've always had a deep faith in God, but it's not every day that God seems to speak so clearly to us. Does this mean that Scott definitely has the job? Not necessarily. It means that we believe that God is in control, and that he will lead us. I am reminded of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, as they were being thrown into the fiery furnace. They said, "We know that our God can save us. And even if he doesn't, we still have complete faith in him."
